Rodriguez: 'Roadracers on DVD!'
If you pop in your new Planet Terror DVD, which just came out today, he mentions in the commentary that one of the cars used in PT was from his film Roadracers. He says Roadracers should be out on DVD shortly.

shareI hope so, I need to see this.
But kind of weird, just last week Blockbuster Online emailed me saying that Roadracers was removed from my "Saved" section of my queue. It was sitting in there for a few years, and they recently decided that it's not going to be coming out on DVD. So I dunno, we'll see.

rock on!!!
shareHoly crap that is fantastic! This movie was just so ridiculous it made it one hell of an enjoyable ride. I don't see a release date for it but deepdiscount.com has this movie listed on their site at http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=24112057 for $21.59 but they usually drop their prices pretty quickly on newer movies if you want to save a few bucks more than you can with them already.
shareThanks for the link!

Best news i've heard since Mad Men got renewed.
I went to a screening of Roadracers last saturday at the Lone Star Film Festival with the man himself, he confirmed that the title would be seeing release on dvd very soon, he signed my roadracers poster and was generally cool as hell.
shareill believe that when i see it.

Metal will live. Yo-da-lin in the valley. Polyfuze method
the time will come.
Sometimes, I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!
this movie will never be on DVD.
shareits never going to happen, i can name a dozen movies gauranteed to never be on DVD, as im sure many can, one of them being Roadracers.bugger off
shareThat's sad you responded to your own post that said almost the same thing. you could have least edited your last post.

Your guarantees mean very little it seems
My ever-growing film Collection http://daytrip.dvdaf.com/owned
not true man...ive looked for subUrbia (1996) for years i got a VHS copy of it but i want to watch the *beep* with commentary, but no such luck, if you find a dvd copy ill give you money beyond your wildest dreams....and if you notice in DEATH PROOF the clerk at the Circle A is *beep* NICKY KAT the same drunk that hung around the Circle A in subUrbia the whole movie
shareim glad i dont think that ALL movies will be on DVD. saves me alot of damned time. not all movies will be on DVD, to think that is crazy mang!!!
sharethey aren't that lame, it never was released in 2008, but now it's definitely coming out on Blu-Ray and DVD April of 2012.
And there are tons of movies on out yet.
I watched the Planet Terror extras and heard about Roadracers coming out on DVD in 2008. Anybody know when?
shareIf I may put myself forward as an official representative of the geeks of Great Britain, may I say that we too are GAGGING for a DVD release of 'Roadracers.' Among the many great films of Robert Rodriguez, to my mind it's second only to 'Sin City.'
shareI have a DVD of it, it's the Australian ver and region free.
shareI know the one you're talking about. i think it's also in PAL
sharewell, use a computer to watch it, I have a french version.
All right ramblers..let's get ramblin'
Seth Gecko (FROM DUSK TILL DAWN)
i got an Aussie version, region 3 or sumthin though, wont play on anything but PS3 or X-Box.....boo. by the way, in DEATH PROOF it wasnt a Circle A, it was reffered to as "THE BIG A" even though it was pretty much identical.
sharei dont see why this movie couldn't get a DVD release. He even mentions it on Planet Terror
shareI just watched it last night on DVD..what a great flick..
shareI'm sure it's something to do with music rights, there were so many great songs in the movie and everybody is gonna want their slice of the profits. I'm pretty sure that's the reason it took Monster Squad so long to come out, and it might be what is holding up Night Of The Creeps.
Hollywood used to create, now they just destroy.
to get technical. its called THE BIG A but when you hear Dawson and Winstead talk about Allure, she clearly states" i cant believe the *beep* circle A carries Allure. so ill go with the circle A. the big A was probably an item for sale, like a size of a fountain drink or something.
shareProblem is: Both versions are bare bones. I'm waiting for a proper release.
shareStill no USA DVD release in Spring of 2009.
I did buy an Australian region-free PAL version on DVD and it's just fine. Great to see this film again!
If you're dying to see it, I can recommend this outfit, they got it to me in reasonable time, $17.99 + $2.99 shipping. Under the circumstances, I thought it was worth it. http://www.daaveedee.com/product_info.php?products_id=105850
I've got the laserdisc. It's got commentary and deleted scenes.
"They shoot horses, don't they?" RIP Sydney Pollack
how did you come across it??? i cant find the thing anywhere. you should make a copy of the commentary and stick it up somewhere, im dying to hear it!!
"i was FROZEN today!!!"
it comes up on ebay every so often, i got a laserdisc on there and then sold it like a year later. i never got around to buying a laser disc player so i never got to hear the commentary or soundtrack!... bummer. i just don't get it, robert rodriguez, salma hayek, david arquette... i know they aren't mega-super-stars but this dvd would bring in plenty of profit, get it out!, whoever is holding it back!!!
"I wrapped his ding-dong in seaweed and he's been smiling ever since!"
well that sucks. i have 2 laserdisc players and no Roadracers laserdisc. he recently said during an interview for SHORTS that ROADRACERS is getting the Blu treatment soon. but i still really doubt that, either way i dont have a forkin Blu ray player.
"I WAS FROZEN TODAY!!!"-Suburban Commando
I think it'd suck if it got a Blu-Ray release and no DVD release
shareblu-ray would be awesome! I just can't believe it's 2010 and i'm still watching this on VHS.
Summer of 2010 and STILL no USA DVD release!!
shareHahahaha I love it, maybe if we keep bitching they'll get around to it!
"I wrapped his ding-dong in seaweed and he's been smiling ever since!"
I dunno, J.H....
Maybe if we hold our breath, we'll turn blue.
Awwww snap, 2011 and the DVD is here... oh, wait, no it isn't. I'll just break and buy the Australian version.
"I wrapped his ding-dong in seaweed and he's been smiling ever since!"
Strange that it's not DVD in the U.S. yet, but it's streaming on Netflix.
shareKeep hope alive!

Unfortunately it's being released by Echo Bridge, the worst home video company around.
When Disney sold Miramax their home video catalog was picked up for distribution by two companies: Lionsgate and Echo Bridge. There seems to be little rhyme or reason in regards to what company got what movies. For the most part Lionsgate got most of the high-profile films Miramax films ("The Crow", "Trainspotting", films by Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Smith, "The English Patient" etc.) but it's almost like they threw Echo Bridge a few bones such as the Robert Rodriguez films.
Unfortunately Echo Bridge has little interest in doing anything but taking HD prints prepared for television exhibition and slapping them on Blu-ray discs. There's no better proof of this than the fact that Showtime is showing "Roadracers" in HD and almost instantly Echo Bridge has a Blu-ray release announced.
The worst part of this is that many of these transfers are cropped from 2.35:1 and feature more basic audio options than their DVD counterparts. On top of that they will only rarely carry extra features over from DVD releases.
Echo Bridge is in the business of bargain-bin fodder. They'd rather slap all 3 "From Dusk Till Dawn" movies plus "Full Tilt Boogie" on a single 50gb Blu-ray disc and sell it to you for $9 than charge a little more for a multi-disc set that gives the movies a little breathing room in regards to picture quality and extras.
There have been a couple exceptions ("Dead Man" retained its DVD extras, for example) but I wouldn't expect to see anything Rodriguez may have prepared for the canceled '05 DVD release or mentioned on the "Grindhouse" extras actually wind up on the disc.
I can't imagine Rodriguez is happy with the way Echo Bridge has been releasing his movies on Blu-ray and DVD and I wish he had some way of stepping in and making sure that they're actually presented properly. He needs to apply his DIY philosophy to the films of his that Echo Bridge controls because they aren't willing to do anything with them themselves.

This is a link to the Blu-Ray on Echo Bridge's website. States that it has a 10 minute film school and a director's commentary. In April, we'll see how much this is true. And I'm guessing it's going to have lossy 5.1 and 2.0 DTS audio, which isn't a bad thing unless they use their own mix and not the 05 Rodriguez mix.
I've got From Dusk Till Dawn from them, the sub is almost completely if not all the way useless. I popped in the Special Edition DVD from Miramax, bass is active all the time. So, we'll see what happens.
