What's the deal with Richie getting shot at the end?

I caught some of this on TV and towards the end, Richie gets shot at point blank range and falls to the floor. About a minute later he just gets up as though nothing ever happened. I was expecting the typical scene of Richie revealing that he was wearing a bulletproof vest, but there wasn't one. I didn't see the whole movie and it may have been edited for TV, so did I miss something there? This has been bothering me forever.

Haven't seen it for a while, but earlier in the film some spray is introduced that can make people bulletproof. He put some of that on before getting shot.

^Correct.^

Yup, beingobtuse is right.

You mean the scene where Van Dough attempts to kill Rich but there's no ammo in the gun.

reply

No, he's talking about the scene where Van Dough first tries to kill him, where he says: "Generally you're right, but on this occasion, I think I'll make an exception!", then shoots him, then Richie says "Cool!", and Van Dough shoots two more times (!) and just receives a glare from Richie! (Hehehehehe!) The two other times are removed, probably 'cause they think it's overkill....

EDIT 3/27/16: A few weeks back, ABC Family showed Richie getting shot three times again!

He had some kind of spray from Kenbean's laboratory that made him bulletproof.
