i don't get all the hate

i think this was a decent film. not the BEST in the series obviously but it's way better than the crummy remake and the prelude to the remake. the only thing i didn't like about it is how they turned leatherface into a wuss. pretty good story and a great cast!

I agree with some of what you said. For sure its not great or even the greatest in the franchise, but it was cheesy and I enjoyed it. I wouldn't give it a 10 but I wouldn't give it a 1 either. I feel it's worthy of at least a 4

I agree. I just think people don't understand the film. I don't think it's intended to be a serious sequel but rather a parody of the original film and slasher movies in general. I love how bizarre and fun the characters and atmosphere of the film in general are. I find it to be very underrated.

The movie started out as what would have been Kim's true sequel to the original, ignoring Tobe's own TCM 2. The final product is meant to be a dark comedy dealing with issues like dysfunctional families. Everything seems to be over the top.

Hatred for this I can only assume comes from five major elements.

1. It's partially a remake. But then again so are a lot of the other entries, so what the hell, people?

2. The dumb or nonsensical story and characters. Apparently Leatherface works for the Illuminati.

3. Leatherface in drag.

4. No chainsaw deaths in a film using the title TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.

5. The family aren't cannibals. Pizza for dinner? What?

I really like this film, it's good demented fun. Parts 2 and 4 often get criticised for being a tonal departure from the first but I don't think there's that much of a departure, both films just bring elements which were in the background of the first film to the forefront, like more overt black comedy. I know some people don't like Leatherface's female demeanour in this film but in the first film he dressed up as a woman to cook dinner. They even had a deleted scene from the original of Leatherface making himself up. The character is supposed to assume the identity of the faces he wears so I don't think this film betrays his character.

I think it's pretty clear with this entry that Kim wanted to parody the genre but I still think he handled the horror aspects really well. The house and surrounding areas were very atmospheric and that frenetic, relentless feel of the villains chasing and terrorizing the victims is there. I enjoy the hell out of some of the performances, McConaughey and Tonie Perensky are particularly entertaining. It's a pity Kim Henkel hasn't directed more, he has a flair for dark, absurd and humorous material which is a mix I think would be a lot more accepted these days.

The hate is pretty understandable considering it is a bad film. Probably one of the worst films ever made.

it's not that bad. i always heard bad things. it's like the other 3 chain saw films, also a little different.

It's really not that bad. I would say though that I don't even really view this as a TCM film. Cause leatherface isn't my reason for watching this. McConaughey's performance alone is what makes this movie.
