Would LeRoy really be labeled a Double D

This is something that has always bothered me about this movie. Jackson LeRoy is in some sort of leadership role while in basic. I was never in the Army but I know the ranks and he is seen wearing an arm band on his sleeve with corporal stripes. So if he is having trouble comprehending commands and such, why would he be places in a position like that. I know this is just a movie and everything and they probably just wanted one of the characters to be a "leader" for the group in general but as I said, it was always something that bothered me.

The same thing goes for Hobbs too. I know he was trying to hide his past but would he really pretend to be as bad as the others appeared to be?

Leroy was undereducated because of his preferential football treatment. When he got thrown out due to injury he had nowhere else to go but the Army which recognized his lack of education. How he got Corporal i can't understand either.

Hobbs was trying to lay low and not be noticed. Unfortunately he was too good at his role and played it up so it made him look like a D-D. Rago got him to relax and he let his true personality emerge.
