Who's story was the saddest?

So, who's "Why I Joined the Army" story was the saddest, in your opinion? I personally felt that it was a tie between Miranda and Benitez. This scene was acted so well...great film!

I was touched the most by Miranda and Benitez' story mainly because they wanted to better their lives. I have a lot of friends from high school and my childhood neighborhood who joined the military for similary reasons.

reply

Yeah, then there are the screw-ups who can't do anything else with their lives.

I honestly thought Melvin's was, but maybe because his story and mine are pretty much the same. I thought Davis's was too, mainly b/c his fellow soldiers harassed him about his father though.

Or the screw ups who can't even join the Army.

It doesn't even matter whose story was "the saddest". I think the most important thing is that they all found something better in the Army.

BUT! The story that touched me the most: Hobbs' and Benitez'(s). I mean, Hobbs' conned his way into the Army to better his life and probably never would have been caught if Bill hadn't recognized his potential.

And Benitez.. I mean, it's sad that it takes someone dying or being killed (esp. your younger sister) to change your life.

excellent film.

Very good question. My pick would have to be Benitezs'.

Benitez always hit home with me. Having a little siter and growing up in a tough area. But yea they were all really good.
