Released in March? Dumb
Maybe it would have made more than $11 million if it was released in November or December like a normal Christmas movie.

shareWho releases a Christmas movie in March anyway
shareHow about Hocus Pocus being released in July when it should have been released in October?Same went for Halloween H20,Halloween Resurrection,Halloween(Remake)and it's sequel.I hate it when they do stuff like that. How about when The Flamingo Kid was supposed to come out in August of 1984,and instead that released it 4 days before Christmas?I mean who releases a summer beach movie at Christmas time?

shareYes, this wonderful film was victim of a dreadful release date and this is why it pretty-much vanished immediately. In the UK it was retitled ‘Hostile Hostages’ - awful, awful title - and despite some good reviews, likewise came and went. I’m glad that, at least, the film has picked up something of a cult following over the years.
shareMiracle on 34th Street (1947) was released in the summer because they didn't believe it would make money in the winter. Studio went out of it's way to keep people from finding out that it was a Christmas film. That's why Edmund Gwenn was considered a supporting actor for the Oscars. They promoted Maureen O'Hara & John Payne as the stars.
