The Chief plays a bigger role. Apparently he moved to Old Saybrook from NYC after he fell off a roof chasing Gus. After Gus robs the house sending the movie in motion, the Chief "knows" it's Gus and that adds a different element to the story.

I think it would of made it more hokey. Glad and happy they stuck with the cut they have and we all appreciate.

I saw this for the first time in 1994 and loved it. Still do. About to watch it again right now.
