Why is this board so dead?

...for a film so brilliant?

This board is so dead because RAPA NUI came out in 1994, 14.5 years ago. Few people remember it.
It's worth discussing though. I enjoyed the movie so much that later on I obtained a VHS copy that is in my possession today. There are no DVD copies in U.S. stores.
I'm going to post my own comments in a separate post.
The critics weren't too kind to RAPA NUI, which in my opinion, was unjustified. Rapa Nui is an underrated movie. It was meant to be a drama with action elements set in a near-accurate historical setting. I think perhaps RAPA NUI aspired to be all these things and so the critics were displeased.

I appreciated RAPA NUI for its melodrama and action, as well as the underlying theme of human-caused ecological catastrophe and eco-system collapse. The moral is, people simply cannot eat Mother Nature out of house and home and expect to continue doing so indefinitely. Soon enough, people end up eating each other, as did historically occur on Easter Island when the environment and the prevailing social sytem altogether collapsed.

I grew up with this flick, has been quite a few times on TV (German TV) and 10-15 years after I first saw it I got the DVD. I always thought it would be a well known film but unfortunately it's not the case....
