Not for everyone, but not bad.

When I first saw it back in 1998 or so (on cable), I was impressed by the cinematography and natural beauty of the polynesian setting. That alone made it worth watching, at least the second half.

Those who are interested in Easter Island or Polynesia generally would find this worth watching for those reasons.

It may be not be perfectly historically accurate, but it introduces the public to two major facets of Easter Island history -- the statues (and resulting deforestation) and the egg hunt. That alone makes it educationally interesting, even if many liberties are taken. (No one knows much about the truth of its history anyway.)

With so many crappy movies made every year with no redeeming value (some of which are awarded Oscars), I'm not sure why some people complain about this. If you don't like semi-historical fiction, with colorful, dramatic cinematography and costumes, don't watch it. Simple.

I agree with you. Its far from perfect, but it isn't bad either.
