One of my favorite films but I still don't really get the ending.
Who was on that plane?
I remember the chief of police hanging up a phone saying "Thank you, somebody, couldn't have done it without you." which I assume ties up the loose end that is my question. But still, I never really got it and still don't.
Anybody?

shareYou know i was completly content with the ending, never giving it a second thought until reading this post and now it really bugs me lol. I watched the movie tonight again with subtitles and the best answer i can give you is that he says "thank you again "major". we couldn't have done it without you" but other than that i didn't see any other explaination of who he was. He was just the backup he had requested. The only thing i can think of is it was a J edgar hoover reference much like the ending of "Clue" but i have no idea. Let me know if you figure it out

Earlier in the movie, Detective Cross (the fat guy) picks up the phone and says "Get me the Air Corps!" (Actually, he says "Get me the Army!" and "Air Corps" is dubbed over it.) The plane was sent in response to that call.
shareLol. I remember the first time I saw that movie, and all of a sudden, the plane comes out of nowhere! I thought that was hilarious. But I assumed it was a police plane. I noticed the star kind of logo on the top, but I wasn't sure until I saw King Kong this weekend. The same logo is on the planes that circle him around the Empire State Building.
Ah, this movie rocks! Definitely one of my favorites of all time!

shareThe ending bothered me too!! I wonder if Anita Morris hadn't have died that the ending would have been different. When "Claudette" is being taken from the studio and the photographers are snapping her pic, it seems not to be Morris, maybe a double to get her story line cleaned up? Anybody have the same thought??
