Whats the song about depardieu sings in this movie?

hello!

I am not a french speaker, so I don´t know
what this song is about Onoff sings pretty much
in the end.
For the song and melody seem to be important to the film;
the young policeman whistles it in the beginning, onoff sings it
and in in the final credits its there again.
somebody here said its about "to remember"
anymore hints?

that would be awesome!

I only remember it was Depardieu singing it in Italian. and he sung something about "remebering is like dying little by little"

Here is a translation;

Remembering
Remembering is a bit like dying
Now you know
Because everything returns even when you wish it wouldnt

And forgetting
Forgetting is even harder
Now you know it is even harder
If you want to start again

Remembering, remembering
Like diving into the sea
Remembering, remembering
Wich is there to be cancelled
And forgetting and forgetting
Is you losing dear things
And forgetting and forgetting
Will end rare joys

If you're trying to play hard to get, play harder! I like it rough!

Hi!
It's in Italian, it's called 'Ricordare' and was written by Morricone.
The best known version is by Angelo Branduardi
