Wallace and Butch

So Wallace let Butch off for saving him from the rapists, this was after Butch had killed Vincent, now Wallace wouldn't of known about this then, so would he of felt differently afterwards knowing that Butch had shot Vincent?
He could of also thought that maybe Butch after saving him had gone back to his apartment then shot Vincent after Wallace had told him to leave.

I think at that point he'd just cut his losses. If he was willing to let Butch go after Butch attempted to run him over with his car, beat the shit out of him, and was ready to execute him with a pistol in the pawn shop, I doubt that Marsellus would be moved to action over Vincent's death.

Maybe Marsellus should have hired Butch instead of Vincent.

reply

I'll never understand this. As you mentioned, he screwed him by reneging on his agreement to take the dive. Then he tries to run him over with his car. They fought. Butch was about to shoot him in the head. Then they were captured.

So, he rescued him from the rapist. So what? It was Butch's fault he was getting ass raped in the first place. He should have been far more pissed.

Well now ...
I guess we know what your limitations are when confronted with getting even over getting dick rammed up your bunghole.

It might not be realistic, but it could be that Marsellus has a code of honor of sorts, and acknowledges that Butch did not have to return to rescue him. It seems fitting for a Tarantino movie.

In Reservoir Dogs, the reason Tarantino gave for Mr. Orange admitting to Mr. White that he was a cop at the end (resulting in Mr. White executing him) was out of a sense of "jingi," which is a Japanese word he claimed had no precise English equivalent but he defined as "beyond honor" (some definitions appear to relate it to an "honor among thieves" or even part of Yakuza code). Given Tarantino's fascination with Samurai films (Butch even wielded a katana here), it makes me think that Tarantino wanted to show that honor among thieves mentality. Butch showed honor by preventing Marsellus from a dishonorable end, and Marsellus showed honor by allowing Butch to leave in peace.

Therefore, within the context of the film I think that Marsellus did not pursue Butch afterward.

That thought always runs through my head when I see this. You'd also think Marsellus would never want word of this to get out to anyone and by killing Butch that also eliminates that possibility.

I think Marsellus just recognises Butch did him a massive favour, not just saving his life but saving him from a fate worse than death, and that it was a noble act to have chosen to go back and save Marsellus when he could have fled the scene. Hard to decide to kill someone after that even after what Butch did in the events that led them to the pawn shop. I mean he only tried to kill Marsellus because Marsellus wanted to kill him. Next to some sick maniac raping you and then either killing you or turning you into a sex slave, it becomes small fry and easy to forgive, should they rescue you from it.

reply

I think both guys knows that neither one is going to say anything to anyone about this.

reply

Wow, I've seen this movie so many times and I never thought about that.

reply

You've all got it wrong here. Butch could have flipped it all around on Wallace. Meaning, instead of killing those two up the bum chum queers, he could have possibly joined them. Yeah, he could have cashed in on Wallace being made a penis parkade and given him even more white beef if he had wanted. So Wallace was saying thanks for not making me take yours as well. And just decided to let him off. Even though I'm certain Wallace was getting a great deal of pleasure from Zed, of course he wants to save face and not look like a wimp who's only good for taking dick.
