If Maynard and Zed had picked Butch to rape...

...do you think Marcellus would have been able to save himself and willing to save Butch?

reply

Yipikay yey madafaka.
But no, Marcelus prob wouldnt save Bruce Willis, he had a grudge. On the other hand his hatred of those gay rapists might have trumped that and he would beat on them first chance he gets so he saves Butch like that.

reply

He's a resourceful guy. I think if Butch got out of those cuffs, Marsellus could have, and likely would have.

His next action would likely have been to call the hard-hitting, uh...persons - or maybe the Wolf - and get a bunch of guys down to the pawn shop. That crew would have probably caught Maynard and Zed and done horrible, unspeakable things to them.

So what about Butch? Butch dies. Marsellus is PO'd at Butch. You think Butch killing one of Marsellus' go-to hitmen makes Marsellus happier? You think Marsellus appreciates Butch running and getting them both caught by redneck rapist/murderers? I doubt Marsellus is feeling too much endearment towards Butch at that point. If anything, he'd hurt him more because of the aggravation that Butch caused.

reply

No, Butch is professional fighter in great shape and can knock outa guy with one punch.

Marcellus is a big guy, but out of shape and not a professional boxer. Don't know if he can knock a person out with one punch, which is important in this scene.

If he doesn't knock out "The Gimp" with one blow, a fair chance that the Zed and his friend would be alerted.

i think if the situation was reversed Marsellus would "save" Butch.

but with that i mean he wanted to destroy Butch himself.. not leave it to some rednecks.

reply

I'm thinking no. As someone else said, I think he might have "saved" Butch temporarily only to deal with him later after he took care of the homosexual rapists. He forgave Butch's transgressions solely because he saved his life & as a result he felt he owed Butch. Even then he gave Butch the stipulation that he would have to leave town immediately and never return or he would have him killed. And the answer is even more definitively "No" when you factor in that Marcellous will soon be finding Vincent dead in Butch's apartment, obviously concluding he was killed by Butch.
