Albanian girl's foot poking out of blanket

I just watched this for the second time and noticed something.
In the first segment of the film, the Albanian girl is in the monk's quarters and going to sleep. She has a blanket over her but her foot pokes out slightly. The monk sees this, seems to think on it, then covers her.

Was this meant to comment on the difference of their religions, or am I reading too much in to it?
I am Catholic, and I know a common representation of Mary is with one foot protruding from under her robe. But I know very little about Orthodox icons, and was wondering if this maybe had some significance.

I'm watching this scene right now on TCM. You misremember the scene slightly: when thr girl runs and covers herself under the blanket leaving her foot protruding, the monk does not cover it up. Instead he gulps nervously. The girl hears it and, abashed, covers her foot. The monk immediately leaves to report her to his superior.

It seems more that the sight of her naked foot bothers the monk in decidedly non-monastic ways, than an allusion to an ikon, Orthodox or not.
