Not Nominated As Best Foreign Film!

An outrage! Of all the films I've seen from 1995, my favorite was "The Postman," from Italy. Foreign film nominations are made by each individual country, and the Italian committee passed over "The Postman" because its director--Michael Radford--is British. This despite the fact that one of the guiding spirits behind the film was an Italian, Massimo Troisi, who co-wrote the script and starred as the postman.

I believe the reason it wasnt nominated for best foreign film is because it got the best picture nommine, and theres a rule that they cant be nominated for both. Im not 100 percent sure but I am more than 90 percent sure.

You're 100% wrong. Crouching Tiger was nominated for both and other films have been as well. The original poster was right, countries nominate a film from their country and Italy chose a different one.

My bad.

Maybe Italy forgot to submit it for consideration. Maybe Italy decided to submit another movie instead.

I think it's quite remarkable that it got the nominations it did. The Academy has a poor record of recognising the quality of foreign cinema.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

I agree it is an outrage. However, every time I watch this film I am just grateful for the wonderful feeling it gives me. It was one of the first Italian films I ever watched, and one of the main reasons why I am now an avid follower of foreign language films.
