Read the book

The movie is not for everyone, granted. But, if you were to read the book (some say books) it's based-on/drawn-from, "Close to the knives," then you might be able to see the film in a different light and appreciate it for what it is.

David Wojnarowicz, the book's author, writes with brutal honesty about his life and what happened to him as he struggled to grow up gay, but it's ultimately a dark, enlightening read.

While reading (not so much while watching the film because so much of the book is left out) it sometimes felt that he was under my skin and viewing the world through my eyes.
