So this film is an analogy of the death of Socrates in Ancient Athens?

My friend said his college lecturer told his class that this movie was actually deliberately made as a commentary on the death of Socrates in Ancienth Athens, the lecturer was serious but my friend said he couldn't remember the reasoning behind it.

I am watching this now because I am taking the same major but I just don't see it.
