Why do people hate this movie (i want detials not just It sucks)

I remember in 1991 or so I was watching a news brief on the revolt going on in moscow by their senate or whatever its called. And one reporter said "I hope the Americans are safe who are here filming Police Acamdemy 7"

In fact in a car chase you can see and hear the fighting going on in the background.

there was even a storie (dont know how factual this is) that one day while filming in Gorky Park, police came up to Jonsey and the rest of the cast and asked them to stay off their radios becuase it was being picked up on the real radios police were using and with all that was going on they were being distracted.

The story line is a little... weak compared to the others but i dont see why people hate it.

It is true and actually it was army not police and Winslow he had to show them his sound effects and it turns out they remember him from the other movies

I really like the first six movies, but by the time this movie rolled around it was like they weren't even trying anymore. True the latter bunch were pretty much going through the motions, but at least they were paced well and had a few laughs. This one substitutes laughs with cartoonish sound effects...in nearly every scene!

I'll admit the movie does pick up near the end, but by that point it's too little too late. And while I disliked it when Steve Guttenburg left, at least we got Matt McCoy in his place.

After PA5:Assignment Miami Beach, I think this one is the worst of the series. I just didn't think there were many funny bits (in fact I think the only bits I laughed at was when Callahan slid off the piano, and the Russian guy who kept saying "I'm in the bathroom, I'll meet you there" with varying degrees of success.) A lot of the jokes were either blatantly unfunny, or just bewildering and illogical. For example, the computer nerd who was in the cardboard box, the acrobats who were painting their room, Tackleberry breaking through Lassard's door with his head but them just walking away. They just didn't make any sense. And Lassard going off with the Russian family was just ridiculous.

Its been a hell of a long time since I have seen this but the two main reasons it is so terrible.

1. The humour is aimed clearly for those under 10. The three Russian clowns is proof enough of that. The humour is just so juvenile.

2. The smugness of it. The characters acted so up themselves and smug in this film. It has been so long since I saw it but I remember Lassard doing some spitting an egg and catching it trick. Tackleberry doing a flying somersault as opposed to being tripped over when running. Jones doing that daft sound effect on the push bike and so much more.

The humour in 1-2 was clearly aimed at an audiance of those around 15-20 yrs. Part 3 around 14/16yrs.

Parts 4-6 10-14 years. And then Part 7 took this nose dive of aiming for the 7-10 year old's market.

Why would a series at part 7 start aiming for an audience that would never watch it as they'd not have seen parts 1-6 (And definitely could not have done for part 1 due to all the nudity in it).

There are good things about it. The first is the two new characters. Claire Forlani is an absolute babe. And Charlie Schlatter was very likeable. And Ron Perlman is brilliant in everything he does.

But the returning characters all seemed to be acting too arrogant.

All I know is Callahan was shown more in this movie, than she was in maybe 6,1 & 4?

reply

I just couldn't find a single laugh. Barely cracked a grin. The only time I even chuckled when was Ron Pearlman said, "Say it a little louder, I don't think all of MOSCOW heard you!"

I am aware in the overall decline of quality after the first three, but even part six had a few laugh out loud moments (Harris trying to conceal the fact that he was glued to a chair as he walked down the hallway) Part seven had a bunch of "jokes" without punchlines.

It's stupid studio decisions, in the case of this movie, ghostbusters 2 and Robocop 3, each was toned down because of the cartoon series kids where watching. They figured kids would see a live action movie of the cartoon they liked was coming out and would beg their elders to take them to see it. So studios didn't get crap from outraged parents taking their kids to an R rated movie, like the original of these type of films (apart from GB) it *beep* it up for the rest of the fans, and majority, who where there from the start watching these things decline more and more with each sequel.
