What happened to Jeri (Blonde girl from part II)?

She was clearly shown in the back of the car with Mike at the beggining of the film. The car then goes off to crash and Mike ends up on the ground outside while one of the gremlin guys are eating the driver. But there is no signs what so ever of Jeri, and Mike doesn't even ask about her.

Does anyone know what happened to her?

reply

Well, first of all her name was not Jeri, but Liz. Jeri was her cousin and made a very brief appearance in Phantasm II!

:o)

If you recall or have watched the movie recently, The Tall Man shows up shortly after the crash and a dwarf hands him Liz's severed head. Her dead face looks like the dwarves have devoured her remains in the meantime. Whether she actually died as a result of the accident or the dwarves killed her is something that we never get to know... although I believe in the first option.

Apart from the shock and frustation that her death causes in the viewer so early into the movie, the fact that Mike doesn't even ask for Liz is a quite embarrasing plot hole and shows how little appreciation and care Don Coscarelli had regarding the character. Apparently, and in case you did not know either, Universal executives forced him to create a love interest for Mike in Phantasm II, something he did not like. This is most probably the main reason why he killed off the character like that as soon as he had the chance.

Hope that helps...

Dude, you are right about the Liz part, but no that was not hear laying down with the dwarves devoured her. That was the driver man! Don't you remember the girl driver that seduces Reggie at the end of Phatasm 2? She rips off her hair, remember? That's her laying down on the outside, not Liz.

reply

You keep being mistaken, pal. The girl driver that seduces Reggie is called Alchemy and never ever appears again after ripping off her hair at the end of Phantasm II. It is implied, although never shown, that she is The Tall Man in disguise and turns into him after that.

And she is definately NOT the one laying down on the outside being devoured by the dwarves... simply because Alchemy was a brunnette and Liz was a blonde. If you look closely, you will notice that the severed head The Tall Man raises up has blond hair, not dark hair.

Watch again the ending of Phantasm II and the beginning of Phantasm III and you will realize that I am right.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother to reply to these kind of posts when I do not even get a simple "thank you" in return...

Wanna tell me how come Mike never was distraught over it at all? His girlfriend just died and he doesn't even weep or mention it? LAME.

reply

I don't have an answer for that... and nobody does. You should ask Don Coscarelli, who wrote the scripts for the Phantasm movies and is responsible for this.

However, it is strongly rumoured that the inclusion of a female character as a love interest for Mike was an imposition made by Universal Pictures executives during the development stages of Phantasm II. In Phantasm III, Universal only distributed the movie and did not produce it, meaning that Coscarelli had total creative control this time. That's why he did not hesitate at all, nor he showed any remorse to kill off Liz's character without including any further mention to her.

Because you were kind of rude.
