The ending **spoilers**

This film was one of Howard's better ventures, but the ending really annoyed me.

If the film had stopped where Glenn Close got shot and ended with Keaton and his wife reconsiling, him not caring about the headline anymore, this film would have been so much better.

It had too many happy endings, Close dead, reciever in hand would have been GREAT.

What do others think?

"Ever get the feeling that no one even sees you?"
"I have a really good body, so no"

good point, but I like the ending... not for happiness sakes, but cos it enforces the idea that it's just a regular day for newsmen and everything is back to square 1 the next.

I think you make a valid point; that would have been a good alternative ending. I also at that point expected to see Glen Close dead while making the important call.

However, in my lowly and wretched opinion I think since ol' Ron had milked and squeezed and stretched our poor nerves to the breaking point, I was indeed quite desperate for a happy ending I was actually saying to myself 'Oh no... PLEASE... DON'T end it this way...!!!'

ILOVEtrading films!I've got a HUGE..uh..collection!Please ask!

I thought it was sort of ironic that the film ended with a radio news broadcast. Was that a not-so-subtle way of saying that newspapers were becoming obsolete?

Good shout!

it's true more and more of us are getting out news online, social media etc because it's real time, it's not sanitized for the sponsors and it has varied opinions... adversely it can often be unchecked and untrue. Having said that and it's true newspaper readership is in decline... however so too is the art of investigative journalism.

All SKY news is a bunch of celebrity opinions, twitter reactions and headlines stolen off reddit/facebook/whatever. there's no NEW in the NEWS any longer. So perhaps this is a farewell to journalism, just like Henry (one of a dying breed) taking a desk job at the sentinel.

Howard doesn't do tragic twist endings.

Part of the message of the movie is that the whole process starts all over again every day.

What I thought was great about the ending was that Keaton's character didn't really care about the front page exclusive anymore compared to his wife and baby being ok.

I'm sure he was glad about it, but not compared to his family being ok.

The wife also said that all the crap had disappeared (now that she'd seen their baby), just as the other mother had said it would.

The main thing (as others have said) is that the whole process starts all over again from square one every day.

Also, the radio said that the whole world can change in 24 hours and Keaton's character and his wife had just seen their world change in 24 hours with the arrival of their baby.

I loved the ending.

Hi Alyse, that parallel sort of fits with Henry's changing priorities when he has a baby, perhaps journalism really is for the younger generations, who are hungry for the truth, who may not have family commitments are are free to keep unsociable hours etc and can compete with other mediums.

Still one of my favorite MK performances :)
