Classic Literature

Watching this movie as a kid I guess I only focused on the story and cartoon characters, not really noticing the books, or the literature, Moby Dick, Dr. Jekyl Mr. Hyde, etc. However when I got older (through courtesy of watching this movie) I read these works of literature. And truly they had a profound effect on me. It's true: all the great lessons you learn and knowledge you recieve occur when your young. Even freakin' Wishbone had the same effect on me. Haha

Ah wishbone...their is some classic T.V. When they portray the books in the movie are they done correct? I know that the 'Alice in Wonderland' was wrong.

I'm very glad to hear it.

Well of course they couldn't match the literature to the movie because in adaptation you have to change the basic product. But they brought the important features to the movie. Put it this way though, if they adapted Dracula to The Pagemaster do you really think they would have portrayed him to represent the idea that sex was evil in Victorian times? I think not....

I just saw this movie the other day and caught so many more literary references than I was aware of when I was little--the raven crowing "nevermore" was the main one.

And Wishbone, wow...I basically credit that show with my passing grades in my English courses, haha.

Wishbone was awesome. I just posted a blip about it on another thread on this board. Definitely a good series for getting kids interested in reading. and you can't beat a dog dressed up as Robin Hood, The Count of Monte Cristo, Huck Finn, etc.

Oh yeah I LOVED Wishbone, I grew up on that, and indeed he gets kids interested in reading the classics. It was because of Wishbone that I ever read Tom Sawyer because it wasn't just the cliche whitewashing the fence that EVERYBODY else does with that, that would've been boring but it had murder and stolen treasure and all that, so it was exciting to me and I wanted to read it. And it was also because of Wishbone that I was ever interested in reading The Red Badge of Courage, Phantom of the Opera, The Imaginary Invalid, and The Time Machine.
