'I Don't Understand'

They say "I Don't Understand" sooooo many times in this movie. It must mean something.

I'm sure that it means something I don't understand.

Just watched the movie for the first time and loved it.That phrase jumped out at me toward the end because it was suddenly said by the professor rather than the girl.We see how the positions have dramatically changed as the girl has become empowered.I have to think about this film more, but when I saw your comment,I felt impelled to answer!
Maybe that was a problem with the characters in the film too though, saying too much and communicating so little!

This movie makes no sense, in so far as, on one hand, she comes off as naive and intellectually stunted. "I don't understand" being her response to his words and philosophies, yet she argues with a vocabulary and intelligence that is contrary to her character. It fails to remain consistent throughout. Either she doesn't understand or she does, you can't have both.

Palawandy, I believe you meant compelled
