This isn't really a spoiler if you haven't seen the film. Throughout there are "dream" sequences depicting Nostradamus' prophetic visions...and close to the end there is a vision of, what looks like, Saddam Hussein.

I maybe wrong, and it may indeed be Stalin or someone else..but, it looked remarkably like hussein.

I nearly spat out my coffee when I saw that.

Wouldn't it have been more appropriate to have George Bush Jnr with his pedigree chum, Tony Blair panting in the background?

It was made in 1994, which was just after the gulf war (the one that really ended) so I suppose the directors thought they would slap in a topical image.

I think it refers to one of Nostradamus's prophecies, in which he says that a third anti-Christ named "Mabus" would arise one day and initiate the apocalypse. The idea is that "Mabus" rendered backwards is "Subam," which rhymes with "Saddam."

I could make a better case though that Mabus actually is short form for Montgomery Burns. Nostradamus is fun to gasp about, but that is all.

Very True...

I don't know why people bring DATED politics into timeless historic topics like Nostradamus' Quartets. Looking back now, it is funny what the director/producers would have been thinking while using Hussein's images in the movie...

Anyways, Nostradamus is a person one should look at with a pinch of salt... Don't take his predictions too seriosuly. Good entertainement value and that's where it ends.
