4.3??!!

What the heck does this movie havea 4.3 rating for? It's not the most amazing movie ever but I always liked this movie. It's pretty entertaining.

There was a lot of hysteria about political incorrectness.

Note the items "racial insensitivity, ethnic stereotyping...", followed by Ebert's extreme reaction to it: 'Siskel called it "deplorable"... as well as saying that it made him feel "unclean" while he was watching it.'

Are you being serious? You didn't find the relentless and unnecessary jabs at Texans, Africans, Chinese, Native Americans, Hawaiians, the Amish, or French the to be the least bit offensive? As part Texan and Chocktaw (Native American), I was extremely offended by the stereotypes of how we are just plain redneck hicks that live in the desert and do nothing but eat, lasso cow, yoddle terrible songs, and eat more. And the whole bit with the "Sending our older ones out on the ice" bit in the Alaska segment was so outrageously offensive that I seriously threw my remote at the TV and nearly broke it, and I'm not even Alaskan.

Besides, all the jokes are completely horrendous. One I can remember is "Hawaii is full of lush and fertile lands, and there is only one place that is rough on our islands. Unfortunatly, its my wife." Ha, ha, ha, so funny. Or howabout when Bruce Willis says "Your name is North? Hey, thats one of my favorite directions!"

This movie is an easy 1/10 for terrible writing, shockingly awful humor, no direction, and mindblowing racial incisiveness all across the board. I'm really not sure how you liked this.

The only thing I remember about celestial Spider-Man is that he's...celestial. - Bruce Campbell

I read your comment before the Hawaii scenes and just want to point out the governor says "barren" not rough.

People who cry "political correctness" in response to all the bad reviews the movie got need to read your comment. It's so easy to say people are being overly politically correct when you're in a majority and haven't had the experiences a person of a certain color or background or belief or so on has had.

The Dark Knight is in the top 10 movies (of all time) on here; don't give too much credit to the ratings...The cast may have been bigger than the movie, but North wasn't any worse than any other 90's single-weekend kids movie.

It's actually up to 4.4 now, 30 Mar 2014. That's a pretty slow climb, but it could indicate a possible trend. Sometimes, after a movie is shown on cable or whatever, there is a surge of interest. If this becomes a standard on home view type venues then I think we'll see the rating go up.

But I think it would need to be recognized as genuine cult fave, and to be spoken well of by some major faction of hipsters or something like that. Then it will be fashionable to like the movie.

Evidence of becoming a cult movie: the two IMDb staff members who rated it, gave it a 7.0 average between themselves (as of Mar 30, 2014).
