Swank was cringe worthy terrible in this

Watching this you wouldn't think she would go on to win 2 Oscars.I think this one would have been easier to swallow if they had a better actress and a less cringe worthy performance.I'm curious to know what the plot would have been if Macchio had chosen to do another movie.

I don't know why she thought this role was a good idea.

I haven't seen it in years, but to my recollection, Swank was not the problem. The problem was the script and the direction.

The film just didn't work on a story level and felt like a direct-to-video sequel. It lacked the gravitas of the first two films and lacked the over-the-top fun factor of the third film, so that leaves it in a pretty tough spot.

I haven't seen it in years though, so maybe I should give it another look. Maybe do a double-feature with Sidekicks, since that's another one I haven't seen in probably two decades.

I agree with what your saying but Swanks performance was the biggest eye sore in the film for me.Obviously she's grown into a very talented actress but she was terrible in this.

I'd have to agree as well. The problem isn't Swank, it was the ridiculous plot and the villains they chose as an opposing force to Julie Pierce. (A shady school security fraternity? Really???)

I don't know, it was the '90s. When news broke out that another "Karate Kid" film was on the way, I was thrilled. I thought it may have contained a brief appearance by Daniel-san. Never happened. What a major letdown.

I decided to watch it again after the "Cobra Kai" series. It's just as stupid and unnecessary today as it was in 1994. At least Pat Morita made it somewhat bearable.

Interesting. I haven't seen it in YEARS but, like you, I was considering giving it another go to see if my opinion has changed at all.

Like I said in my last post, to my recollection it basically felt like a straight-to-video sequel.

Looking at Box Office Mojo, I see that it only made about $16 million at the box office and only about $9 million of that was domestic. I figured that the Karate Kid name alone would guarantee more of a return than that.

I thought she was hot in this movie. The movie itself was a bad concept altogether so I never took it seriously to begin with.

My thoughts exactly bourbonking, especially the scene where shes looking in the mirror trying to fix her up when shes already beautiful!

Hilary's always given flack for her "horsey" face but to me her scowling eyes and and beautiful physique outshine that aspect. She also radiates an inner fire in her roles and it's too bad that even in today's supposed Pro-Feminist Hollywood she's not considered for more leading lady roles. Her RomCOm dramedy P.S. I love You really showcases her romantic abilities
