This movie...

Has just been shown on Channel 5 in the UK. Did anyone from here watch it?

I taped it because I love KK1&2 (still haven't seen the third) and even though I've heard a lot of bad things about this movie I want to see it out of morbid curiosity's sake. Is it REALLY as bad as everyone says? Why is it so hated?

Well, I watched it. Wish I hadn't. Only one word can sum this movie up and that's LAME!

Why oh why did they even make this??? I know they were trying to cash in on the KK franchise but talk about a step too far. I think I'll just stick with the first two KK movies with Ralph from now on, he's the only Karate Kid.

Its not the worst film ever made. Its a classic feel good, young student without purpose, focus and having no release for her feelings. The venerable teacher is asked to look after her and he realises her potential.

I am most disappointed that its not in the Karate Kid box set.

reply

And I thank the heavens above for not having this peice of PURE TRASH in the boxset.

reply

Umm...this movie IS in the Karate Kid boxset. It's on the same disc with KK Part 3 (one movie on each side. Also the labels are on the wrong sides of that disc.)

reply

Yeah your right, the labels are on the wrong side.

reply

Lol, I thought just my copy had the labels reversed.

There's nothing wrong with this movie at all. It's very interesting and can teach people (mostly teenagers) how to deal with life that way. So I really don't see what's to hate about. It's nowhere near bad (or lame).

OMG, you poor, deluded people! This movie was really and truly horrible!! You guys must have bungee-jumped into a gym floor one to many times not to realize how bad this movie is. If you want to learn something from Mr. Miyagi, listen to him from the first two movies, and ignore the arrow-catching guy from this movie.

Anyway, what was up with the grandmother just taking off for California and leaving her granddaughter (you know, the one feeling angry and ABANDONED by the death of her parents!) in the hands of Mr. Miyagi?

I love this film!

http://spaces.msn.com/members/mrblack125 - it rocks!

I haven't played it, but "The Karate Kid Collection" doesn't have a double sided disk for Part III. Guess I am missing out, so just to prove a point I bought it (yes I paid for it).

With all respect to all the users... this is probably the worst movie ever made! It should have never been made. It's a piece of garbage and it ruined the perfection of the Karate Kid series. Anybody with bad taste will enjoy this movie. Why do the hall monitors think they're part of the FBI? Why does the wise old man bring balls to the house for the children to play with them? What the hell does that have to do with the movie? Why is the shemale from Boy's Don't Cry all of the sudden good friends with the old man after fighting with him? The stupid writers of this movie shouldn't have written in the line when the shemale told the old man "you can't even speak English!" This movie made me sick to the stomach. I'd use the dvd as a cup coaster or.... toilet paper.

The movie is ok. Its hardly on the level of the first few, but isn't that bad. Its perfectly passable for when you feel like relaxing for a few hours with a movie on TV. Its just not going to be something you'll be happy about if you're going to the theater for some blockbuster hit.

U SUK 2

reply

Hey you should get the dvd set, and watch KK3 that was a very good movie, and it ended the trilogy nicely... Part 4 doesn't count in my mind.
That movies something else... Pure horse poop.

reply

This movie is pointless and mediocre but entertaining... it also seems to be on TV in the US all the time for some reason. It's weird... it seems like TV stations only like to play bad sequels like Back to the Future III instead of the original good movies :P Probly costs less money or something, heh.

reply

LOL I've never even heard of Part 4! So yes, I so wanted to like KK3, but it was lame. Lacking all of the fire and spirit of the first two. It was a tough watch, as the pacing is very slow and they never really give Hilary a chance to really kick some butt the way that Ralph got to in the first two.

It could have been so much better!

And its on Channel 5 in the UK again right at this moment, the time being 18:47. wow isn't that freaky.

Whats wrong with BTTF part III? I like it...

reply

Yeah, I saw that, funny thing is I was just thinking about it when it came on.

I just don't know what it is about this movie. A lot of the acting is downright wooden, the nasty hall monitors all look like they stepped right out of Grease, and the actual martial arts sequencies aren't that amazing. There isn't much of a storyline, really the only thing that could recommend this is the sight of Hilary Swank in a crop top and cut-off jeans.

But having said all that, I love this movie. Maybe its the Zen Bowling sequence, or the extreme feelgood cheesyness. Maybe it's Michael Ironside doing his best Military nut-case act. Hell, maybe it's just those crop tops...
Whatever it is, it just keeps me coming back time and again.

Oh, and I like BTTF 3 too.
"Whats your name?"
"Eastwood. Clint Eastwood."
"What kind've stupid name is that?"

Classic!

KK3 was hilariously bad... the whole idea of a multi-millionaire giving all his time up for revenge on some 2-bit sensei and his protégé, combined with Terry Silver's comical lines and blatant over-acting, makes this movie one of those "it's so bad it's funny" films that can be excused for being a waste of your time.

The next karate kid is just plain old terrible... it's beyond bad. The storyline cliché in every way possible, the writing is atrocious, it looks like a TV movie... you can't say enough bad negatives about this movie. One of the worst of it's year and arguably the most disappointing end to any series of films.

reply

I agree.

#3 We can say that it's japanese culture and they are extreme at times :)
Yup, honnor is the most important thing.
The acting wasn't good in #3

#4 problem is that it's plain stupid. What was it? A gym teacher who is insane.
I didn't like the Monks. The girl saves the boyfriend from 6 well trained guys.
It had that "girls can do anything boys can" thing to it. It's a kind of desease that is in every 80's show and most 90's. It was also funny when she shows her feminine side with the dress.
Mr Myagi was perfect, otherwise I would give this one -1.
I give it 3.

It's as bad as the Rocky 5.

reply

Haha i used to love this movie as a kid. I just remembered it now and thought, "WAS THAT HILARY SWANK?!?!'". Turns out it was.

reply

This movie is absolutely hilarious. It's brilliantly terrible and deserves to be held up as a classic.
