Is it REALLY that bad?

I love the first Neverending Story movie. I haven't seen the second one or the third. With the third I've NEVER seen another movie get so many bad reviews. Is the movie really so terrible? I like movie's that are so-bad-it's-good, would I enjoy this or should I just skip it?

reply

Yeah, it's really that bad. It's probably even worse than you've read because there aren't enough negative words in the English language to sum up the nightmare that IS Neverending Story 3.

The second film isn't very good, but it's not rancid beyond description like the third. Neverending Story 3 is not like Troll 2 or Cool as Ice ... Neverending Story 3 isn't "so bad it's good." It's so bad that it's like being brain-raped.

Stay away. I paid 75 cents for my VHS copy, and I felt like I'd just spent $100 to tongue-kiss a herpe-infected hooker with scabies, head lice, and a highly-contagious cold.

reply

Sounds like I really should skip this, then. I guess I will, it does look/sound pretty stupid. A shame, seeing as the first one was so good.

This movie is what I would call a Sabanized movie. (Like "sodomized", but meaning "defaced by Saban".) That means that this movie looks like Saban got its grubby hands on it, and made the film under its stupid "family friendly" sandbox. Why "Saban"? Well, they made the POWER RANGERS to begin with. They also did the *other* Casper movie: "Casper: The First Adventure"; and that ugly sequel to Culkin's "Richie Rich". If you've seen either of these things, I feel your pain.

It basically tears the NeverEnding Story to shreds. Fortunately I didn't watch this when it came out, but waaaay into the 2000's; I had already grown up enough to see my childhood memories trashed beyond repair.

reply

Saban did NOT make The Power Rangers. Power Rangers is based off of The Super Sentai Series. I guess you could say that The Super Sentai Series is the source material for the Power Rangers franchise.

Although I MIGHT be wrong about him not making Power Rangers.

this movie is so bad it makes Catwoman oscar worthy. Its so bad that if there was contest for greatest idea raped in a worst case this movie would get it without the competition.
This is not a movie, this is punishement for everyone that read the book or watched first movie.

reply

Yes the third movie is horrible! It really is a disgrace to the first two. In my opinion, the Neverending Story II was the best!

reply

This was actually my favorite one! I don't know why everyone hates it.

Everyone hates me *fake tears*

reply

Both sequels are decent children's movies in my opinion, nothing more. Part 1 is a visionary masterpiece of a movie. I would put it up there with Star Wars, Quest for Fire, Excalibur, etc.

reply

I saw it. I should've listened to you guys but I never learn, LOL. It was awful and not in the fun awful way either. I actually enjoyed Catwoman but NESIII was all out bad. What was going on with Bastian's hair?! He looked like a Vanilla Ice wannabe.

I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way.

I always liked the first one as a kid (even now, I still kinda like it once in a while), the second one I only saw once when it 1st came out so I don't remember much of it, but I saw the 3rd recently only cuz it was on TV and all I can say is HOLY S! did they ever drop the ball on this. Wow!

reply

Have you read the book? The movie pales in comparison. One of the worst book to movie experiences ever... and the weird thing is... the plot follows for the most part, but the true spirit and the philosophy is not there.

As for the third movie. I like to watch it when I am feeling for something dumbed down and childish...

Come on people, it isn't that bad... I mean it still has the magic of a boy being changed and changing a book...

I will admit, the Rock Biter musical number can go... that's just embarassing.

reply

The reason we hate this movie, is because it really "does no justice" to the previous two. If youve read the book, than you will notice that the frst two movies remain particularly faithful to the book. The Third one on the other hand, goes its own way, having no connection to the first two and the feeling they give us. Let me put it this way. Would you watch Jerry Springer, and say its better than a really deep TV show like "The Untold Stories of the E.R." The E.R. had more INTENSE and realistic themes to it. JS is just a man trying to get other people to fight for other peoples amusement. They arent the same, and neither is the third NES to the first two.

I can think of one more movie that really did no justice to the original, and that is The Secret of NIMH 2, as compared to the first one. If you like the 2nd one better than the first, then i just feel sorry for you, because your life is really ONE DIMENSIONAL

NESII didn't go anywhere and it was kind of a rip off of The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. I still haven't seen this third one and I've heard very terrible things about it. I still want to see it, or at least start it (may decide to never finish it). I think I'll wait till I can find it at Pirate Bay.

reply

Just skip it. They have turned all the characters into blithering idiots

reply

And what moron thought Jack Black would be an effective villan?

reply

You know what? While I will agree that it's not ever close to being as good as the first movie it was much better than the second one. The only thing I liked about # 2 is that it did keep with the story of the book even if only in a small way and Jack Black was honestly my favorite character in the movie.

reply

I wouldn't say 'bad': The movie is anything but faithful to the characters in the book or in the previous movies. The story does not come, except from a few plot-traits, from the books or the other movies... It has nothing to do with the original stories, apart from a few elements and, say, 'indicia'...

Nevertheless, it's still a movie. A real movie. It does not escape the natural 'rules' of any movie. Hence, and as happens with most movies, some may like, and some may hate. I happen to know examples from both cases...

On a more particular note... I love pretty much every movie I've seen (really, I'm not exaggerating, I get laughed at a lot for enjoying movies everyone deem as 'bad'). Yet this one, I did not like at all; I think it's the only movie I could never stand to watch again... Even with Jack Black and all, I don't like it myself...
