Bastian's Father

As most know, the continuity in this one was really messed up. In Part II, Bastian's father found out about Bastian's adventure in Fantasia. In this one, when his new wife mentioned The Neverending Story, he(the character)looks like he remembers Bastian's previous adventure. However, when he goes up and talks to Bastian, they don't even bring up Fantasia or what's going on. If they kept with continuity, his father could have helped him hide the Fantasians orget the book back, falling prey to The Nasty while doing so.

i thought exactly the same thing. But then he went upstairs and had a nothing conversation with him. Was this movie even trying to connect with the previous films?

Overall very dissapointed with this film. Everything was awful the music, characters were corny and annoying, it was like watching Barney.

Evidently not. NOTHING this film used aside from some character names, but never personalities, matched the first two films. My big question is:
Why did no one - Michael Ende, Wolfgang Peterson - protest this? Someone of power connected to what the book/original movie must've had to have given permission for this to get going...Why was it not prevented? It mocks them both so badly..

I'm confused, did Nicole call him "dad" in this, I think they got the parents they wrong way round in this, as I thought Bastian's mom died?
