Whatever! i think Nell should come out with her own rap album. "Jayyyyyyyyyy little chickabeeeeeeee in da wyyyyyynnnnnnnnnnnn!" Horrible horrible flick that i forced myself to finish.

You morons. SO tolerant! I had a girlfriend who was 3/4 deaf and so mispronounced words all the time. It was actually quite endearing most of the time.
I'm sure you both have mannerisms that make people want to kill you, so don't throw stones.

"They sucked his brains out!"

Its a developmental problem. There are windows in which humans are able to learn speech and language, easily. Children who are abused/isolated (such as those locked in a closet, like one such girl for about 10 years) may learn some basics, but for the most part are unable to ever speak a language. Not hearing proper language for the first 3 years is damaging - yes, babies are hearing and learning, even if they are drooling and pooping. After about 5~6 years old, learning language is pretty much lost cause. The brain's wiring during those developmental years are done. Just as we as adults have a very difficult time learning something new, including a new language - but we are able to because we understand abstracts and concepts, etc and can apply what me know to another language. Try learning Japanese, its very different and looks nothing like our ABCs - but it does work very well.

Definitely the worst movie of 1994. And I usually love Liam Neesan. The script was too ridiculous and Jodi's acting too annoying as you say.

Play the game existence 'til the end...of the beginning...

I forced myself to watch it as well. Truthfully, the real Nell was a BS artist, so I expected a great twist ending, but it never happened.

For me, this movie was so emotionally pandering, it made me want to puke. Someone that has lived isolated, alone for the most part, and that doesn't speak the native language must automatically be a simpleton. That said, don't judge her so fast! We can learn from her simplistic nature and her simple ways, We will BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!

But hey, to each their own. For me, it just seemed like an awkward play at an Oscar for Foster.

I didn't watch the movie because I couldn't find it anywhere ,but from what I saw I think her acting was representing reality
why ?!!
you should watch "the secret of the wild child" on youtube
its a documentary about a girl name Genie who was tied up in her chair for 13 years and she never saw or talked to anybody even her mother
the girl's talk and expressions are not normal and annoying because she have never been around people

Ahgeez.........overanalyzing? No, just missing something I think....the original poster that is. Go back in the movie.....the mother, Violet was raped. We don't know much about how she started living in the woods....who she might have had with her before her twins were born. But, we do know she had a stroke> Liam tells the sheriff, "Try talking out of only one side of your mouth" or something akin to that. So, when did the mother have a stroke? hard to tell or I missed that but I'm sure Nell had only her mother's voice, facial expressions, and words to copy, do you copy that? Her only other human contact was her sister May and I'm sure May also copied such things. After all, don't our children copy us first and then develop their own communications with others. So, I find Jody's characterizations as a real representation of what might have been if this story were true. And, where did Jody get her ideas from? A book written in French (Jody is fluent in French) about a wild child that the author portrayed. Ya think that (facial disjointedness and head leaning) might have come from that> I do.
