Hated the American remake should I bother seeing this?

Just watched the Ewan McGregor remake for the first time tonight. Good cast, but a pretty terrible movie filled with nothing but plot holes and people reacting unreasonably to everything.

I've heard that this one sets the mood better and is creepier, but other than that, how similar are they and is this one really that much better?
