Well the US remake of Nattevagten was wastly inferiour, even with Bornedal as a director.

Well, it's true; especially in the case where an International film is remade by Hollywood. Because even though this film had the same director, he is working under the restrictions and guidelines of the Hollywood studio system. So he loses the freedom to make the film he wants to make. In Europe and Asia, film is considered "art," and is therefore financed by the government. In the USA movies are financed by private investors who want to make sure they make a profit. Thus the "art" factor is removed and replaced by corporate maneuvering. The remake of "Nightwatch" is basically a soulless, gutted and castrated version of the original. If you prefer antiseptic, ultra-commercial Hollywood films to International art films, then that is fine. It just means that you are easily entertained. Miramax LOVES people like you..
