The Ending..(spoiler)

Wow...the ending...or lack of...kicked me in the teeth.

I liked the movie a lot...but, wow...didn't expect an unexplained unending.

Where was he going? Did they break up? So surprised.

I too was confused. What was the point of driving into Mexico at the end. Why where they going and what was the meaning of it? And I'm guessing they broke up cause they're in separate cars.

I kind of missed part of the ending so, i don't know if I missed it or not but does his girlfriend find out that he slept with Kathleen Turner and it's the reason why he proposed to her? And was she cheating on Eric stolts with that other guy?

if you're really paying attention while you're watching this film, you'll realise fairly early on that one of its themes is "uncertainty." with that in mind, the (open) ending is perfect. this is an independent film from the time before that became trite (and just another word for "hollywood lite"). neither stoltz, nor parker, were stars as yet, and kathleen turner was in her prime.
if you want a "tacked-on" hollywoodish-styled 'happy ending' here, you're nuts...or, are simply watching the wrong movie.

Not sure why you thought he was driving into Mexico at the end. That's what the New Jersey turnpike looks like to me. And I thought it was actually the GW bridge at the end.

And him seeing her in another car is not reality. He's picturing the important people in his life in other cars cus he just got done telling us about his story. Way over your head.
