Seems like Vada wasted a lot of time tracking down random teachers and "friends" and yearbooks instead of looking for her mother's side of the family. Anyone!

Maybe Vada wanted to find out what kind of life her Mother had before she settled down with Harry and gave birth to Vada. Also there might be reasons why she didn't want to track down her mother's family e.g.
* Vada's mother's family maybe stopped talking to her or
* Maybe the family didn't get along with Harry
Also, Vada might not have met her mother's side of the family so she might not know what they look like or something
