I seem to remember a different ending... (possible spoiler?)

I may be thinking of a different flick with a similar feel\plot, but I could have sworn Mute Witness had a movie within a movie "everything you've just seen was the movie they were working on at the beginning" ending, but the vhs copy I purchased disagrees with me!!! Was there an alternate ending, or am I being reminded of another movie from the same time period??
