What would it be like to be mute in real life??

I have only seen this movie once, and it was a long time ago! But it made me wonder what it would be like to be mute in real life?? Not being able to speak at all would surely be a very frightening thing. How would we get by in order to communicate? How would we plead for help??

I mean, what was shown in the movie was great, but suppose that happened in real life?? How would we survive it!!
