Ferris Bueller's Day Off with Dorothy Parker

Now I haven't seen the whole movie but am I the only one who thinks Matthew Broderick put a little too much of Ferris Bueller in his performance as Charles Macarthur? Now I can tell they are similar people but there are differences. What do you think?

I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.

I think you don't know what you're talking about. There is NO Ferris Bueller in this movie at all. It's a very sexy and realistic performance by Broderick.

Broderick has the tendency to be brilliant or completely dull. In Ferris Beuller, for instance, or Election, he's brilliant. Here, however, I do think he was somewhat miscast. It's as if he isn't even trying. His accent is particularly grating, because that kind of boy scout, apple pie accent just sounds so out of place in the setting. It seems a very modern accent, and I can't imagine anyone speaking like that back then—not that I know how Charles MacArthur spoke, but I'm sure he was more cultivated than that, considering the company he kept. If he'd only smartened the accent up just slightly, the way Campbell Scott did for Benchley, it would have been an improvement.
