I agree with you. I love this movie, but there are so many parts to it that make you think, "There's no way that could happen." For instance, Eva's stepfather was sneezing miserably the whole time the monkey was in the house, and yet he and Eva's mother NEVER made the connection that he was only sneezing in their house, and therefore there must be some kind of animal in there.
Very little of the film is based in reality, but it's still fun to watch.
