I have always found her quite lovely...just as she is this movie. Furthermore, I am one of the few people who loves both versions of this classic...
But I have to cringe every time I hear her call a guy who just asked her to marry him...a FOOL.
Man, it takes the magic of this film down several notches for me...!

Yes, I completely agree! I also found it pretty unrealistic. I mean she obviously was attracted to him and liked him. Damn, he was pretty perfect in every way and loved her daughter. There's hardly a chance she wouldn't at least consider his offer and take it seriously. Please!

I get your point, but allow me to argue the opposition... She because he's damn near perfect and she seems to be into him, doesn't mean that she has to marry him. I mean, obviously she wanted to because she ended up doing so, but at the time, it just wasn't in her spirits. And, we'd only seen them together a couple of times, so we can't know what he saw in her to make him want to marry her or reasons for her to say "yes". So, it may have seemed harsh, but maybe, like she said, she gave him no inklings of wanting to get married and to him.
