Owen Meany Junior High???

It said in the movie that's where the little boy goes to school. Owen Meany is the name of the main character of "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving. I just thought that was interesting. Any connection there?

It's funny because I was right in the middle of reading the book for the first time when the movie came on TV and I decided to watch it, also for the first time. When I heard Owen Meany at first I thought I was imagining it since I was so immersed in the book and reading it during commercial breaks, so I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. I would wager that it's probably not a coincidence. It makes sense that a fictional school would be named after him, a memorable and heroic fictional character.

Yes indeed but they should have changed the school's name to Simon Birch JHS because the movie of that name was better than the book ('A Prayer For Owen Meany') and the renamed character was more memorable _because_ he was shorter- lived than was Owen in John Irving's novel.

But then I find fault with most of Irving's books (and scripts he ineptly adapted from them). So others may disagree but I still think Simon says it better :-)

Yeah, I was just watching some of this movie and I caught the reference. Sorta weird. I assume the screenwriter's a fan of the book, but odd trying to connect it to THIS movie.

I used to be big into Irving and I loved A PRAYER FOR OWN MEANY.
