I like this film but there's no evidence of a poker player in the mix. Its another one of these, "the best player always holds the strongest hand" films and twice the players mention tipping the dealer with there chips. (the players and chips are satelited to the final table and its winner take all. The chips dont actually represent money).
I dont like to nit-pick but this sort of thing does impact on the story and reduce my enjoyment of it.
well...Maverick can read bluffs...don't you remember him calling all in with a pair of 6s? This is the Wild West...Supersystem was years in the future...just enjoy it.
shareYeah, I was laughing like hell when Jodie tipped the dealer. What was he gonna use it for? It's not like this was a cash game. It was a winner take all tournement.
However, nobody is perfect. This is a great movie. 10 stars!
There is a bit of decent poker stuff in it. Initially, you see how Maverick played out an entire hour studying the other guys at the table. Then you saw how he called the bluff with his 6 pair, then in the end, he was able to identify the fixed hand through the bottom dealing. The finale wasnt about winning with a strong hand, but about how he was able to read what the others are upto. Besides, its not a poker movie, its more like spending time looking at the various things he comes up with.
