Hayes Character

Does anybody know why Epps was in and Snipes was out? I've heard conflicting stories. Along the same lines, did they expect people not to notice the difference/remember the first one? I can imagine the casting director's thought process. "Hey, you know who's a black guy with a flat top? Omar Epps! Let's use him!"
