Harris

Recently when watching this film, its been ocurring to me, what happened to Eddie Harris from the first film? I would guess Chelcie Ross decided not to do the sequel, or the new producers/writers forgot about him or didnt want to recast the role. Presumably Harris retired or was traded/released/let go to free agency during the off season--you would think that would have been at least mentioned in the opening recap/preview montage...

I'd have to imagine Harris hung 'em up, considering he was about 54 years old in the first movie...

I am glad he didn't appear in this movie. I liked his character a great deal in Major League and him not appearing in the sequel prevented the writers from lousing it up like they did so many others.

Why didn't they replace him with a funnier actor. Instead they used some guy named Schoub who only said a few words in the movie. Thats what made the first movie better. They had a lot more interesting characters.

Yeah, I assumed Harris retired. He referenced the fact that he didn't have a strong arm anymore to Vaughn at the beginning of the flim and also told Lou at the end that he was "throwing every piece of junk" he could meaning he had no arm left.

The Harris character was a cagy veteran player so I assume when the season ended, he hung up his cleats. Would have still been nice to see him return as a bullpen coach or something like that but with Taylor already taking a coaching role, there probably wasn't a place for the character in the movie.

The character wasn't really necessary for the sequel. In the original he had two purposes. He was the veteran pitcher to compare to the rookie Vaughn. Secondly, he was the Christian who comes into conflict with the Voodoo worshiping Cerano. The sequel was about success going to Vaughn's head so the rookie/veteran angle was gone. Cerano was paired up with newcomer Taka in an angle about him losing his edge.

Harris had nothing left, he had no fastball, he had to rely entirely on trick pitches but trick pitches are only tricky until they are caught onto. At best he could have been a reliever.
