King George and Queen Charlotte

I'm not sure whether this has anything to do with the historical reality, but I thought that the relationship of the king and queen (as shown in the movie) was just so sweet. Of course it was an arranged marriage, but it looked like they were genuinely fond of each other. Even if it isn't true, it's still nice to believe!

It IS true, or rather was while the King was sane. After his illness of 1788-89 he would continue to get recurring bouts of porphyria (then classified as insanity) and Queenie eventually became fat and unpleasant and stopped caring as much for him after he went permanently "mad" in 1810. When she died, it is believed that "Mr King" wasn't even aware of it. Sad.

And since they had fifteen children.....that's right FIFTEEN.....their relationship had to have grown beyond a purely arranged, political match.

Two or three might be just "doing their royal duty", but fifteen surely means a pretty fond relationship.
