Queen Charlotte was black (or half black)

Couldn't have cast a black actress to play her?

Scarlett: Sir, you are no gentleman.

Rhett Butler: And you, Miss, are no lady.

reply

No, because she wasn't black.

reply

According to history she was.

Scarlett: Sir, you are no gentleman.

Rhett Butler: And you, Miss, are no lady.

No, there is A person who believes that she POSSIBLY had a black ancestor 9 generations back. There's no proof this ancestor was actually black, and even if the ancestor was black, it was 9 generations before she was born. That's such a small amount that she would hardly be considered black, "half black" or even 1/32nd black.

kelly, did you even bother reading the link provided? they do not have concrete evidence that she was of african descent. however, because of the way she LOOKED, because afrocentrists would very much like to believe there is african bloodline in the english monarchy.

they stated:"Modern researchers, however, believe Madragana to have been a Mozarab, that is to say an Iberian Christian living under Muslim control, of Sephardi Jewish origin.[16]" & "Valdez y Cocom assumed that Madragana was a Black African woman..." keyword being assumed.

it's naive to assume someone ethnicity strictly based on looks. i have seen african americans that look as white as any caucasian & caucasians that look extremely exotic with kinky hair & dark skin with dark eyes.

as rewarding as i am sure it would be for afrocentrists to feel like they made such a discovery, alas, it is an assumption.

You credit Wikipedia and Answers.com are historical texts? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!! Did you ever read a real history treatise?

reply

Um, I'm sorry, but I find it exceedingly hard to believe that George III, could have married a women who appeared to be black.

She might have been - I don't know (or care really), but I can guarantee you that she didn't look like it. That much is pretty certain.

I mean, come on!

reply

I also don't think she looks black. Your post is too presumptuous. She reminds me of the Simpsons. http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kwcb28df6a1qa4s0qo1_r2_400.jpg

Queen Charlotte was NOT black. I have studied British history in college.

The "black" ancestor was actually an Iberian Christian who lived in North Africa. The historian who claimed it said the ancestor was from a "black branch" of the Portuguese Royal house...there was no "black branch" of the Portuguese Royal house that has been claimed. For some reasons, blacks want to claim white history so much. For example, they want to claim Cleopatra but she was wasn't black (she was Greek). I'm getting SO tired of this. She was a GERMAN princess with distant WHITE Iberian heritage.

There is royalty in Africa (e.i. the Zulu). Claim those! Leave ours alone!!!

Queen Charlotte was NOT black.
Agreed.

If she was black how come the artwork of the time depicts her as white? She at times was described as having a dark complexion, which doesn't automatically mean she was black.

I think the OP is drawing a very long bow with this one.🐭

Which is what every claim Afrocentrists make is based on, incredibly reaching claims that end up looking farcical.

reply

Yes, contemporary people at court suggested this about her- she 'appeared' of African features.
