hi! i bought this today and it was in japanese. does anyone know if there is an english language version of the movie dvd available? thanks

Yes their is an English version of "macross plus". In fact I've seen it in english a few months back.
For further proof you can check amazon under "Product Details" language: English.

It exists. Trust me. It's too good not to have been translated. And it's a damn fine script.

There IS an English version on DVD that I heard about today (Monday). It's about a half hour shorter than the four combined episodes and has a different ending (not too radically!) and some added scenes.

There's English subs on the DVD, but there's no dub if that's what you're asking.

If you want to see Guld's eyes pop, you'll have to watch it subbed.

sadly no...but if you know anime most english dubs are completely horrible

That's a gross exaggeration. Some are better than others, obviously. But many are done with great care.
