These TV movies were odd.

No returning castmembers from the show except RDA, no Randy Edelman theme song, and hardly any MacGyverisms in their hour and a half runtime. They didn't really follow the environmentalist/troubled teens edict of the last few seasons and were action oriented so it would have been the perfect place to let MacGyver go all out with his MacGyverisms.

I counted six MacGyverisms in the first and four in the second. In fact it seemed to me they were really packing them in in the first one, and I thought they were doing exactly what you suggested.
