Great movie, great cast and a great ending. Why isn't Rory Cochrane a bigger star?

He may not be a household name, but believe me he has some devoted fans! His IMDb message board isn't exactly hopping, but it isn't totally dead and there is another message board for him that I go to that is busier.

I do not have attention deficit disor...Ooh, look at the bunny!

I'm way late to this conversation, but better late than never! Watching the Low Life for the first time (not sure why it has taken me so long). I already like it. As far as why Rory Cochrane isn't a bigger star, it confuses me as well. I've loved him since i saw Dazed and Confused a billion years ago (I'm older than dirt), back then it was just cause I had a major 14-year-old-girl crush on him. But after growing up and seeing more of his movies...I still have a major 14-year-old-girl crush on him. But also think he is a fantastic actor. He's such a chameleon, he looks and acts different for every role he plays. Lol and yes I know that he is playing a different character in every role. But he brings something original to every character. I hope that makes sense. Me no understand words no good.

I liked it too. It was sad and strange, but a great movie.

I like Rory alot, but just found this movie pointless. The whole "We're in LA and want to be an Actor/Writer/Whatever gig" seems played out. Outside of that... Not sure if I missed something or not, but the other characters never seemed to develop at all...and was Rob Livingston making a pass at Rory (his character) in the end when he lays him on the couch and starts playing with his hair? I don't know, something about this movie gave me the willies. Sean's character was so...out of character for him, it just didn't work for me. His play on that particular role was a little over the moon in my eyes. He overshot the part, in the sense that I didn't truly feel any compasion for him. I actually thought his role was funny, and for a while I thought that was the "theme" of the movie...their oddball, ironic pairing as roomates in the stuffy apartment?
Lastly, was this supposed to be a throwback into the early 80's?? Call me an idiot, but I never caught what year it was supposed to be, but drew that conclusion based on the music of that age being protrayed as hip. Maybe I need to watch it again, but I think this one's for the die-hard Rory or perhaps Sean fans out there. Didn't hate it..I guess.

I didn't remember seeing any other hints that it was early 80s other than Sean's music, which isn't really a hint to that. That's just the music he grew up with and enjoys. Its perfectly reasonable for his character that he never really grew in his music taste and always listened to the same stuff.

I really enjoyed the movie and don't see how this isn't a cult hit. It felt like the more toned down and reflective father of Swingers and Office Space. I'm glad there's finally a dvd now available to buy and rent, though my blockbuster only got one copy.
