Great movie!!!

The first time I saw it, I did it because I had taped it without knowing. Fate lead me to it! And I loved it! Since then I've seen this movie many times and I'm still amazed everytime I see the scene when Mike finally understands what has happenned. His expression, the way he looks at her and starts searching for the painting!... Without saying a word. And there's no need for words! His face says everything. It's one of the most amazing scenes I have ever seen in a movie! Absolutly fantastic!

*chokes* this does not equal good!!!! You want a REALLY good version of this? Try Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant in 'An Affair to Remember'. The expression on Grant's face when he sees the painting has never been replicated before or since. Katharine Hepburn is the only spark of decency in this entire film, but then Kate is always a delight. A decent version (not as good as an AATR, but good enough) stars Irene Dunne, but the Kerr-Grant movie takes the cake. Go watch that and see some REAL acting.

The Grant/Kerr movie is a distant second to the Beatty/Benning... by far. Hauting melody "Love Affair" helped. Disappointing the I Will and Love Affair, kd lang version, were missing from Soundtrack. The only disappointment.

I disagree. I say It's the other way around. At first, I liked the movie, because it was more modern and I thought it was going to be somewhat different than the original. But as the movie progressed and most of the lines became identical to those from An Affair to Remember, it just made it all to predictable.

I have seen all three versions of this film, and I also have seen Sleepless In Seattle, which while not being a version of this, is inspired by it, and is even mentioned within the film...

Love Affair (1939) starring Irene Dunn and Charles Boyer. I had this on VHS, saw it a few times and have since lost the tape. Excellent film. The scenes with the Grandmother are by the best of the three versions of the film. This is the best version of the film by far.

An Affair To Remember (1957) starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. Again, excellent all around, however the movie has a by far more "comedic" night time sitcom kind of feel. It's not bad, but it shows. An example is the scene were Cary Grant is painting advertisement bill boards. The whole style of the film is ... It's not slapstic humor, but it's not plain humor either. It's far fetched to me.

Love Affair (1994) Starring Annette Bening and Warren Beatty, (duh, the film this message forum is under, I am on a roll... Sorry) -This version of the film is not nearly as excellent as the others, but it is well done. It suffers from that the settings are similer to the original setting of the first two movies. and it seems too surreal. The whole aspect of them being on a plane, which makes an emergency landing, then to be on the cruise ship... The plane aspect should have been dropped out of it period. It was dumb. Them meeting on the cruise ship (as in the previous two versions) should have been kept as is.

Bening and Beatty work well together, but then that also has to do with they were married to eachother at the time they did the movie (and they are still married as far as I know)

Casting all around was... Strange. Garry Shandling? Not someone who fits in with the rest of the cast. He's no actor. He's a comedian.

Katharine Hepburn was a delight, and to hear her swear! (This is the one and only time she ever said *beep* in a film).

Pierce Brosnan... Well. Interesting choice, however his role is ... Lack luster. He was scenery, nothing more.

Kate Capshaw... One of the few times I enjoyed her in a movie.

While I appreciate from where this film evolved, I love it as a stand-alone. Amazingly, I had the pleasure for this version to be the first I've seen in the remake-remake saga - so it was a fresh story to me and I enjoyed it without reservation. I thought Warren fell in love with Terry before my very eyes and she softened to him as well. I thought she was a little stiff throughout - stubborn to not admit her feelings to him at nearly every opportunity and a little unfair to Pierce to not let him off the hook - but that's a minor problem. I loved her bonding with the Aunt; that felt very real for how nervous one can be in the presence of a formidable older woman. I thought it was absolutely enjoyable. I turn people on to see this movie whenever they need something new to see and I haven't made anyone regret it yet. Garry Shandling provided a nice comic "L.A." tone to the other side of Mike's life which helped illustrate that Mike needed to make some changes in his life and get away from friends that were only interested in his accumulation of wealth on his image. Great enjoyable movie and wonderful soundtrack.

Despite two excellent leads in Beatty and Bening, and a wonderful farewell appearance by Katherine Hepburn, this film is really awful. I know taste is subjective, but it's really hard to believe that people actually find this movie tolerable, let alone describe it in superalatives and find it superior to An Affair to Remember. Unfortunately, I've never seen the original and would like too--I'm a fan of Irene Dunne, who, sadly, is virtually forgotten today.

I am also surprised that the rating is not higher but, everyone's different.

This is one of my most favorite romance movies ever. I get all choked up just looking at the dvd cover. That's from an anticipation that never stops.

I really love this movie! I fell in love with it! While many would compare it to the original one, I'll say it is really far different from the original simply because Love Affair (1994) have Annette and Warren! Aren't they perfect?!
Somehow makes me think it was meant for them. :)

I wish I knew this was on! I haven't seen it in many years and came in at the scene where he realizes what happened. Agree his facial expressions, I cry every time. So glad I didn't listen to the reviews, one of my favorite love stories.

I loved it TOO!!! To see Warren and Annette in a love story is just beautiful. And they are each tremendous actors. There's is much more to Warren Beatty than he is ever given credit! He wrote, directed, and acted Bulworth. She gets my Oscar every time!!
