I think it was actually the same dog that played Chance in the second Homeward Bound. They both had a brown patch on the ear. Even if not, it's not uncommon for Hollywood to breed lines of certain dogs. So it's possible that this one was related to "Chance" if he wasn't him. But considering they were made around the same time, it's probably the same dog.
sharePetey, the dog actor who plays Petey in this movie, was in the second Homeward Bound movie. Chance in the first Homeward Bound film was played by a dog actor called Rattler.
