Who did the brother kill?

So in that scene immediately after the birthday dinner where they go into the apartment and take that man...if he was not their father, then who was he? And if he was their father, then at what point did the movie break away from chronolgical events and start showing flashbacks of when the father was still alive?

I thought the father was killed in that scene but right after it he's there again? How?

He is not the father, he is a jewler who Joshua is supposed to kill.

That is the main reason why Joshua comes back to "Little Odessa" in the first place, listen to the phonecall in the beginning of the movie, it is when we get introduced to that part of the story.

I think he killed a window cleaner man. Or perhaps a vendor. Who knows.
